We’re swimming in the full moon energy right now. I don’t know about you, but I am feeling some serious emotional overwhelm! Some of the emotions people are experiencing right now are anxiety, overwhelm (too much to process), and feeling not good enough. I’m also seeing a lot of people wondering why they thought they had things all figured out, but now they feel completely lost. What a time! Ugh. We have a Mercury retrograde coming on the 19th as well until January 8th. This may or may not affect you at all. I’m not an astrologer, but I know there is a lot more to it than just “it’s Mercury retrograde”. There are degrees and aspects involved. (I can recommend a good astrologer, if you want to explore that.)
So what do we do with this mess of emotions? Why do we have to keep going through this junk? I hear from many, many spiritual teachers that this is necessary. That we need to process out things in our psychological make up that don’t align with who we feel we really are, or who we want to be. I get that. Makes total sense if you come out of the other side of this having learned something and purged it from your life – never to have to deal with it again.
Frankly, I prefer to purge things one at a time and more comfortably, but the spiritual gurus also say (and my intuition agrees) that this is a time of great change and we have all agreed to “get the show on the road” for the betterment of all. Guess what that means? We are going to have to face a lot of really difficult challenges all at once. What about those of us who don’t really have any challenges to face? You’re going to feel like you do anyway. It kinda sucks, really.
How to Deal
Tool Number One: Give Yourself Space
I have a few tools I use when I get overwhelmed. Example number one is right now. I had to leave my house to get some space. I’m currently at my closest Starbucks drinking a peppermint hot cocoa. I didn’t really need the cocoa, but I definitely needed the space. You can’t process any of your emotions if you are constantly bombarded with them. Take an hour, if you can, and just chill. Or journal. That helps too. Or write a blog post. 😉
Tool Number Two: Get Back To Sleep
Having trouble sleeping? I sometimes wake up at about 3:00 am with my mind spinning and I just can’t get it to shut up. I may not even have a thing to worry about, but that ol’ brain is just too keyed up. What the heck? I was sleeping, you know. A good relaxation meditation or hypnosis recording works wonders to help you focus on just one thing and get your brain to calm. Also, theta or delta wave entrainment is really helpful. My kids love to fall asleep to entrainment music.
Tool Number Three: Make A List
Sometimes you just feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders – too much to do and not enough of you to go around. I find making lists helps for this. Write down all you want to accomplish, prioritize and start checking things off. You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment knowing you actually are achieving things, even if you don’t feel like you are. The list can include everyday things (like laundry and dishes), seasonal things (mail those Christmas cards, buy final stocking stuffers), or connecting with a friend or family member who has been on your mind (call or email ____). Getting it all down on paper helps clear the mind.
Tool Number Four: Journal and Talk
Lastly, sometimes you just need to write out how you’re feeling, or talk it out with a friend. Or, hey, talk it out with yourself. Make it a priority to hash out the things that are coming up for you right now. Once you figure them out, you won’t have to deal with them over and over and over again.
The full moon energies and retrogrades are good times to put things in order in your everyday life and in your mind and heart. Well, anytime is, really, but we feel it more during these times. If you give yourself space to process, everything runs so much more smoothly. I don’t believe for a minute that we are supposed to be suffering here on Earth. So let all that junk go. We don’t need it anymore. You deserve to be happy, so take some time now for yourself.
